Überschwängliches, tief empfundenes Indie-Folk-Duo
Eine Kreuzung aus The Tallest Man on Earth, frühen Bon Iver und The Lumineers
Stables – Das Indie-Folk-Duo wurde von Matthew Lowe (Keston Cobblers Club) und Daniel Trenholme gegründet.
Stables wurde im Januar 2016 bei einem nächtlichen Drink zwischen Matthew und Daniel in London gegründet. Matthew arbeitete zu dieser Zeit an einer neuen Projektidee, und nachdem er um 5 Uhr morgens durchgespielt hatte, was ihre erste Single “Steam” werden sollte, war das Duo geboren und ging vier Monate später schnell an die Öffentlichkeit.
Beyond Brushes” (ihr Debütalbum) wurde nur neun Monate später, im August 2016, veröffentlicht und von Kritikern wie Steve Lamacq von der BBC, Tom Robinson, der BBC-Legende Bob Harris und BBC6 Recommends unter anderem gelobt, was ihnen bald einen festen Platz in der Szene und eine wachsende Fangemeinde bescherte.
Nur einen Monat nach der Veröffentlichung begaben sich Matthew und Daniel auf ihre erste Headline-Tournee durch Großbritannien, die in den nächsten zwei Jahren zu sechs Headline-Europatourneen mit über 200 Konzerten auf dem ganzen Kontinent führte. Stables legen Wert auf “Energie”, wenn sie live spielen; sie wechseln die Instrumente und produzieren den Sound einer kompletten Band, mit großen Harmonien und verschiedenen Stilen. Matthew sagt: “Ich wollte immer einen einfachen Sound kreieren, den man bei Bedarf weiter ausbauen kann, von einem kleinen Folk-Club bis hin zu einer großen Festivalbühne”. Stables wird 2020 weiter durch Europa touren und auf vielen großen Festivals auftreten, darunter das Glastonbury Festival und Cambridge Folk.
Das zweite Album von Stables, ‘Reverie’, wurde Ende Februar 2018 veröffentlicht und übertraf damit ihr Debüt. Wir sind unglaublich stolz auf diese Platte und können es kaum erwarten, dass die Leute sie hören”. Matthew bezeichnet es als “Beinahe-Trennungsalbum”, das er in einer “Phase der Beziehungsunruhe” schrieb, die sich im Laufe des Prozesses auflöste. Dies ist das Album, das wir immer veröffentlichen wollten, als wir uns Stables ausgedacht haben. Wir lieben unser Debüt, aber dieses fühlt sich an wie der Sound, den wir schon immer produzieren wollten”.
Nach dem Erfolg ihres zweiten Albums “Reverie” haben Stables inzwischen ihr drittes Album “Silhouettes” veröffentlicht, das von Matthew während der COVID-19-Pandemie aufgenommen und produziert wurde. Das Album wurde von begeisterten Fans und Kritikern hoch gelobt. Die Tourneepläne des Duos für das Album wurden jedoch abrupt gestoppt, als die nationalen Abriegelungsmaßnahmen durchgesetzt wurden.
Infolgedessen war das Duo nicht in der Lage, Live-Auftritte zu spielen, konnte sich aber stattdessen ihrem Projekt der Kaffeeröstung widmen (www.stablescoffeeco.com), dessen charakteristische Röstungen im Verlauf der Pandemie sehr gefragt waren. Der Kaffee des Duos passt perfekt zu ihrer Musik und sie nehmen ihre Röstungen mit auf Tour.
Seit dem Erfolg des Kaffeeprojekts des Duos haben Matthew und Daniel Stables Workshop (www.stablesworkshop.com) gegründet und mit der Herstellung ihrer eigenen duftenden “Novel Tea Light”-Kerzen begonnen.
Das Duo wird nach und nach weitere Kreationen in den Workshop aufnehmen.

‘Ebullient, heartfelt indie-folk duo’
‘A cross between The Tallest Man on Earth, early Bon Iver and The Lumineers’
Stables – The indie-folk duo formed by Matthew Lowe (Keston Cobblers Club) and Daniel Trenholme.
Stables was formed in January 2016 during late night drinks between Matthew and Daniel in London. Matthew was working on a new project idea at the time and, after playing through what was to become their first single, ‘Steam’, at 5 am, the duo was born, and quickly went public four months later.
‘Beyond Brushes’ (their debut album) was released to critical acclaim just nine months after, in August 2016, and was championed by the likes of BBC’s Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson, BBC Legend Bob Harris and BBC6 Recommends amongst others, soon establishing them firmly on the circuit, with a growing fan base.
Just a month after the release Matthew and Daniel embarked on their first UK headline tour, quickly embarking on 6 headline, European tours over the next 2 years, performing over 200 concerts across the continent. Stables put emphasis on ‘energy’ when playing live; switching instruments and producing the sound of a full band, with big harmonies and varied styles. Matthew says; ‘I always wanted to create a simple sound that could then be taken further when needed, from a small folk club, to a large festival stage’. Stables will go on to tour Europe further in 2020, performing at many major festivals including Glastonbury Festival and Cambridge Folk.
Stables’ second album, ‘Reverie’, was released at the end of February 2018, surpassing their debut. ‘We’re incredibly proud of this record and can’t wait for people to hear it’. Matthew calls it an ‘almost break up album’ that he wrote whilst in a ‘period of relationship unrest, which resolved during the process’. ‘This is the album we always wanted to release when we first imagined Stables. We love our debut, but this feels like the sound we always set out to produce’.
After the success of their second album, ‘Reverie’, Stables have since gone onto release their third album ‘Silhouettes’ which was recorded and produced by Matthew during the COVID-19 pandemic. The album received high praise from avid supporters and critics. However the duo’s touring plans for the album were abruptly stopped short as the national lockdown measures we’re enforced.
As a result the duo found themselves unable to play live gigs but it just so happened that they could turn their hands to their coffee roasting project instead (www.stablescoffeeco.com) which their signature roasts saw high demand throughout the course of of the pandemic. The duo’s coffee sits perfectly alongside their music and they bring their roasts on the road with them.
Since the success of the duo’s coffee project, Matthew and Daniel have since gone onto creating Stables Workshop (www.stablesworkshop.com) starting off with pouring their own scented ‘Novel Tea Light’ candle range.
The duo will slowly add more creations to the workshop as they go.
